Mountainbike downhill

A woman from Madison County will spend 25 years behind bars for her part in a crash that took the life of a college student in Georgia. The 32-year-old woman was sentenced to 31 years in prison. Only 25 of those years will have to be served and the remainder will be completed on probation.

According to reports, cyclists were riding along Athena Drive in single file as a group. An SUV traveling toward the cyclists crossed the road and hit three of the riders. One person died on the scene and two others were injured. The woman who was driving the SUV told police that she had been looking at her cell phone just moments before the accident.

The woman who was charged, and ultimately convicted, of the crime had been charged twice before for driving under the influence of drugs. It was not immediately clear how police discovered that the woman was under the influence of a substance in this accident. What is clear is that the woman will face consequences for her choices that took the life of one and affected the lives of dozens.
