Close up portrait of person drinking alcohol while driving

On September 4, 2017, a law enforcement officer was doing her duty by responding to an accident on I-75. As she was performing her job, she was struck by a vehicle driven by a suspected drunk driver.

According to reports, the officer had responded to a crash between a truck and a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle had died on scene. The female officer was driving up to the scene of the accident, slowing her vehicle, and was struck by another vehicle being driven by a person suspected of being intoxicated. The officer was not injured seriously, but was reported to have been shaken up.

The man who struck the patrol vehicle was arrested for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. He was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was sent to Kennestone Hospital for treatment before being transported to Cobb County Adult Detention Center. It was unclear when he would appear before a judge or whether or not he had been able to post bond.

In this instance, the victim of a drunk driver was not seriously injured. That is not always the case.
