Female driver causing an accident on the road

A Columbia County Magistrate Court has denied bond for a woman charged with six felonies. The woman was charged with six counts of serious injury by vehicle after causing a crash. The woman is accused of being intoxicated while driving with six children in her vehicle, all unrestrained. The woman is also charged with 16 additional traffic violations.

The woman’s bond was originally set at $5,000, but was revoked after the injuries sustained by two of the children worsened.

According to reports, the woman failed to yield to oncoming traffic. As a result, her vehicle was struck on its side. The children in the car, including one of her own, were seriously injured. One child was rendered paralyzed and another suffered a traumatic brain injury. The child with the brain injury remains unable to speak.

Court documents outline information provided by a responding deputy. The deputy told the court that he asked the woman how much she had had to drink. The woman told the deputy that she had consumed one glass of wine that day. A blood test was administered to the woman at a hospital and the result was .394.

Three children interviewed while at the hospital told investigators that the woman was alerted to the oncoming truck, but she told the children she was going to “beat it.” Additional charges the woman is facing include driving under the influence, lack of safety belts, safety restraints for children, endangering children under 14 years of age while driving under the influence and more.
